Shavlik Technologies, LLC, a solution provider for simplifying and automating critical IT operations, has begun shipping Shavlik NetChk Protect 7.5 which maximizes energy cost savings while minimizing systems missing critical security updates because they were powered off during scheduled maintenance periods.

With enormous energy cost savings at stake, interest in computer power management has been steadily increasing. Switching off PCs that are not in use at night and on weekends can save up to $60 per machine per year. But great care must be taken to ensure sleeping computers receive critical security updates (patches) and antivirus definitions. By integrating power management with industry leading patch management and antivirus protection, Shavlik NetChk Protect 7.5 strikes a balance between the desire for greener IT and the need to maintain the health of computers. The solution seamlessly integrates scheduled changes to power state (shutdown, sleep, hibernate) and Wake on LAN to power machines on for regular maintenance. Shavlik has also released a Power Savings Calculator, available for free on IT.Shavlik.com, to help administrators calculate their CO2 and energy cost savings.

“We have learned from utility companies and our customers that the need to automate the deployment of security patches has forced some energy savings ambitions off the agenda. By integrating these tasks with patch management in a centralized, easy-to-use console, we can make those green IT initiatives viable," said Mark Shavlik, Shavlik Technologies' CEO.

NetChk Protect Patch Plus Power Management is the latest “Patch Plus” release from Shavlik Technologies designed to simplify and automate the systems management challenges most relevant to current IT environments, while lowering cost and complexity.
