SolarWinds Releases Version 2 of App Performance Monitoring Tool

Latest release features expanded application monitoring templates and a real-time notification system

SolarWinds announced last week that version 2.0 of its Orion Application Performance Monitor (APM) is now available for download.

The Orion APM gives users "proactive" insight into their overall infrastructures to assess network bottleneck problems, the company said in a press release. Version 2.0 integrates with the Web-based Orion Network Performance Monitor, so users can view their network data from a single interface.

The latest release features a notification system that alerts users to performance problems based on their pre-set specifications. It also includes WMI performance monitors, allowing users to check WMI performance remotely.

Other features include simulations of end users' experiences with applications including Oracle, DNS and SQL Server; a wizard for building application monitoring templates; and a greater variety of pre-included templates.

"Orion APM v2 provides enterprise-level functionality, scalability and reliability and, compared to competitive solutions, it's easier to use and much more affordable," said Kenny Van Zant, SolarWinds' chief product strategist, in a prepared statement.

SolarWinds is currently offering a no-cost 30-day trial of the Orion APM version 2.0 on its Web site, http://www.solarwinds.com. Pricing begins at $2,995 for 50 monitors and one year of maintenance.
