Cloudian Offers HyperStore Software To Make Big Data Smarter

Cloudian Inc. released new HyperStore 5.1 hybrid cloud software that supports the Amazon S3 cloud and integrates with Apache Hadoop for Big Data analytics.

The object storage company has a goal of turning Big Data into "smart data" with its new product by helping developers and users run Hadoop analytics jobs in-place with no need to offload the data to some other system for processing.

That can help enterprises more economically glean business intelligence (BI) insights faster and more efficiently, Cloudian said.

"The ability to analyze Big Data right in the storage bank is a game changer for organizations as they move closer to realizing the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT)," the company quoted IDC analyst Ashish Nadkarni as saying in an announcement last week. "This is what everyone wants to do but it has been too complicated and cost-prohibitive, until now. Presenting the Hadoop community with an attractive option for fast, flexible, in-place Big Data analytics, Cloudian HyperStore 5.1 is a leading massively scalable, smart data system, capable of yielding high value insights without the high price tag."

Cloudian said its HyperStore software uses a distributed, replicated peer-to-peer architecture that contains no single point of failure. It can scale easily with commodity hardware so companies can deploy a small number of servers in a single datacenter and then scale out as needed, with the capability to handle hundreds of petabytes of data by utilizing thousands of servers housed in multiple datacenters.

"HyperStore software is the only cloud storage solution that natively supports AWS S3 API with 100 percent compatibility in terms of API fidelity and feature coverage," the company says on its Web site. "As a multi-tenant solution, HyperStore software provides a robust and flexible management console and API to facilitate user provisioning, administration, quality of service controls, usage reporting and billing automation along with flexible rating plans to enable a wide range of billing and licensing models."
