A new Hacker Intelligence Initiative report released by Imperva, a data security solutions provider, takes aim at local and remote file inclusion (RFI/LFI) attacks that allow hackers to run malicious code and steal data not by including them as e-mail attachments but rather by manipulating a company's Web server.

Although there are signs of economic growth in business services (including IT, finance, procurement, and human resources) in the U.S. and Europe, “globalization” and competitive pressures will continue to drive jobs to offshore providers. By 2016, 2.3 million jobs in those four sectors will have moved offshore -- of which nearly 1.1 million are IT jobs.

The cloud is no different than any other application when it comes to IT concerns. After all, just as with selecting a payroll or network monitoring application, IT must worry about “lock in.” What if the service doesn’t keep up with technology or the law? What if it gets too expensive? What are our options? How do we avoid vendor lock-in?

Security administrators know that they have more to fear from negligent employees than they do from external hacks. Ponemon’s study, 2011 Cost of Data Breach Study: United States, is the seventh in the firm’s history and it comes to the same conclusion. It reports that “negligent insiders and malicious attacks are the main causes of data breach,” and 39 percent of organizations “say negligence was the root cause of the data breaches.”
