Alliance Eases Auto Industry EDI
Sterling Commerce Inc. (Dublin, Ohio) and Bar Code Solutions Inc. (Troy, Mich.) have announced an alliance agreement to provide EDI-based solutions to meet the needs of automobile industry suppliers and their trading partners.
Sterling Commerce, a provider of e-commerce value-added services and software, and Bar Code Solutions, a producer of integrated bar coded inventory tracking software for the auto industry, plan to jointly offer an automotive advance ship notice (ASN) solution. This solution will pair Bar Code Solutions’ Automotive Release Management System (ARMS) product with Sterling’s GENTRAN:Director PC-based e-commerce message management and EDI translation software, plus related value-added network services.
The alliance and its subsequent solution have been orchestrated in response to requirements by many automotive industry Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that their suppliers use ASNs and automotive bar coding (B10 labeling), according to published reports.
