Invensys Acquires Marcam
Approximately two years after transforming itself from Marcam Corp. to Marcam Solutions Inc. and spinning off MAPICS Inc., Marcam announced it has been acquired by Invensys plc., a global electronics and engineering company itself created by the merger of BTR plc and Siebe plc earlier this year.
The Newton, Mass.-based Marcam was purchased primarily for its Windows NT and object-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) asset management software products, according to a press release issued by Invensys. Marcam's Protean, PRISM and Avantis products also run on the AS/400 platform.
Invensys is hoping Marcam's solutions, combined with its own Wonderware FactorySuite, will enable Invensys to offer complete software solutions in the process automation market. Both companies plan to sell and support their products in their respective markets.
