Sterling Software Looks to Add Web-based Business Intelligence Capabilities
Sterling Software Inc. (Dallas) announces it has entered into an agreement to acquire Information Advantage Inc. (Minneapolis), a provider of Web-based and enterprise business intelligence software.
Information Advantage's flagship product, MyEureka!, is a business intelligence suite that gives users access to corporate information from a single point of entry. With MyEureka!, users can find and access a variety of business intelligence resources, including queries, reports, On-line Analytical Processing (OLAP) analyses, spreadsheets and multimedia presentations, either on a company's intranet or the Internet.
According to Cindy Foor, director of corporate communications for Sterling Software, the decision to acquire Information Advantage stemmed from its Web-based business intelligence capabilities. "Their products and technology are really complementary to ours," Foor says. "This acquisition will help our products move further into the Internet and intranet segments."
Sterling Software is known in the AS/400 market for its COOL:2E and VISION:Flashpoint products. COOL:2E allows developers to model and generate code for the AS/400 platform in RPG/4 and COBOL/400. VISION:Flashpoint is a visual development tool designed to provide client/server integration of existing host, server and desktop applications through a graphical interface.
Foor says Information Advantage will be the centerpiece of Sterling Software's Information Management Group, one of the four divisions within Sterling Software.
