VERITAS Recruits LXI for AS/400 Backup Solutions
In a move to provide enterprise-class backup, recovery and tape management to its AS/400 customers, VERITAS Software Corp. (Mountainview, Calif.) has entered into a strategic alliance with LXI Corp., an Irving, Texas-based developer of data storage management and operations automation solutions.
"By partnering with LXI Corporation, VERITAS Software is able to offer customers a flexible and versatile AS/400 backup solution that has been proved over the last ten years," says Michael Colemere, VP of product management for VERITAS Software. "This solution helps to complete our data-center-to-the-desktop philosophy of protecting, accessing and managing critical business data."
The key to the alliance is integrating LXI's Media Management Systems (MMS) for AS/400 with VERITAS NetBackup. Together, the LXI/VERITAS solution will cater to the AS/400, Unix, Windows NT and NetWare platforms.
"LXI’s strategic alliance with VERITAS Software is good for our mutual and respective customers," says Bruce Fisher, VP of sales and marketing for LXI. "We are now able to offer our customers the best of both worlds, enterprise-class backup and recovery solutions for Unix and Windows NT and our own family of mainframe-class backup, recovery and tape management products for the AS/400. Our customers will be able to share resources including tape libraries and media between their AS/400, Unix and NT systems to reduce costs and increase operating efficiency."
