Technologic Upgrades Appliance Offerings

Standing tall in the growing field of Internet appliance providers, and continuing to complement such devices with security products, Technologic Inc. (Atlanta) has announced new capabilities for its InstaGate Internet Appliance and Interceptor Firewall Appliance offerings.

The appliances, designed to provide security, Internet connectivity and virtual private networking (VPN) capabilities, have been upgraded to Version 4.1 to include RealPlayer G2 support, an anti-spam feature and 56-bit DES encryption for International export. Each appliance includes Intel processor-based hardware pre-loaded with product-specific software.

"We are continuing to provide our growing base of small and medium-sized businesses with new, advanced product capabilities," says Brian Cohen, Technologic's CEO. "Version 4.1 adds three features while enhancing many existing ones."

RealPlayer G2 support is expected to enable a higher quality of video and audio clips encoded with G2 to pass through Technologic's firewall while maintaining a secure connection. Technologic's SpamFilter is designed to make use of more than 18 different techniques to identify unsolicited e-mail and block it before entering the network. The exportable versions of Interceptor and InstaGate support 56-bit DES traffic encryption with a Diffie-Hellman modulus of up to 1024 bits.

Announcement of Version 4.1 comes a few weeks after eSoft Inc. (Broomfield, Colo.) announced the signing of a letter of intent to acquire Technologic. While the completion of the transaction is subject to several conditions, the anticipated completion date for the transaction is August 31.

"We're extremely pleased that eSoft recognizes Technologic's unique value in security and VPN technology," Cohen said in a company press release. "We are looking forward to supporting eSoft's vision for the future of Internet appliances by contributing our engineering knowledge to their product roadmap. eSoft's extensive reseller channel will dramatically improve our access to small and mid-size businesses."
