A Perfect Match: HP-UX, Oracle 8i, And Itanium
During Oracle OpenWorld '99 HP demonstrated HP-UX and Oracle8i running on Intel's Itanium, Intel's first IA-64 (Intel Architecture, 64-bit, formerly known as Merced) CPU. Using HP's dynamic translator to run software originally compiled on PA-RISC2, the demonstration showed binary compatibility between PA-RISC and IA-64. By using a database originally loaded from the PA-RISC version of Oracle8i, the demonstration also proved data compatibility.
HP plans to deliver Itanium systems supporting HP-UX, NT-64 and Linux in the second half of 2000.
