Eicon Adds Migration Option for Wall Data Customers

With uncertainty still surrounding NetManage’s (Cupertino, Calif.) acquisition of Wall Data, Eicon Technology (Montreal) has announced its “Off the Wall” program, which will run to January 31, 2000.

The free migration program will allow users of Wall Data’s RUMBA product line to seamlessly transfer to Eicon’s Aviva family of products. Eicon will match both product type and the number of licenses. In addition, it will also offer a maintenance service to match the customer’s Wall Data agreement to the termination date or for up to one year, whichever comes first.

To ensure that there is no risk involved, Wall Data customers are free to retain their RUMBA licenses. “NetManage’s recent announcement of its intent to acquire Wall Data may leave RUMBA users feeling uncertain whether support and maintenance of their products will be available beyond December 31,” says Ken Gingrich, Eicon’s senior VP of Worldwide Sales & Marketing Operations. “Eicon’s ‘Off the Wall’ program eliminates this uncertainty by providing RUMBA users with a viable option to NetManage that is Y2K certified, flexible and scalable for their changing needs and backed by a leading support organization in the host access arena.”

A comprehensive range of PC-to-host connectivity products for delivering host applications to desktops or Web browsers via SNA or TCP/IP centric networks, the Aviva family of products consists of Aviva for Desktops, Aviva Web-to-Host Server, Aviva for Java, Aviva for Terminal Servers, and Aviva HostPrint Server.

Eicon’s program comes on the heels of a similar program launched by WRQ, Inc. (Seattle) in early November.
