Informatica Acquires Influence

Informatica Corp. has acquired Influence Software, a provider of analytic applications for the e-business value chain. The combination of the two companies' products will enable Informatica to deliver an analytic solution to address the multi-channel requirements of industrial-strength business-to-business (B2B) e-businesses. Informatica is acquiring Influence Software for roughly $80 million in a stock transaction. The transaction will be treated as a pooling of interests.

According to analysts at Forrester Research, the overall e-business market is expected to grow to $1.3 trillion in 2003, with $1.1 trillion spent on B2B solutions as big businesses embrace e-business. Informatica's new analytic applications will address a critical need - helping large, multi-channel corporations gain insight into the performance of their complete e-business value chains, including the productivity, efficiency and quality of their buying and selling relationships with customers, suppliers, marketplaces and trading partners.

"Our acquisition of Influence allows us to deliver ... robust analytic applications for gaining real-time business insight across the entire e-business value chain," says Gaurav Dhillon, CEO of Informatica. "Powered by Informatica's data-integration infrastructure... these analytic applications will help give industrial-strength e-businesses actionable insight into their markets, customers, suppliers and distribution channels."

Informatica's PowerCenter and PowerMart data-integration software has already been tightly integrated with Influence's applications as part of an OEM agreement signed by the two companies earlier this year. This tight integration allows existing customers of Informatica and Influence Software, as well as other e-businesses, to benefit immediately from the merger of the two companies.

"Informatica is leading the charge in providing analytic applications for B2B e-business," says Dhillon. "Our data integration software platform provides an essential component of Internet infrastructure - a flexible backbone that integrates data from across all transaction systems, such as the Web, ERP, legacy and RDBMS, enhances it for analysis and delivers it to a company's analytic applications. With robust, highly customizable analytic applications powered by one of the best infrastructures available today, companies will be able to get a complete cross-channel view of their business."

Influence Software has 35 employees and is based in Sunnyvale, California. All employees are being offered positions at Informatica and will relocate to Informatica corporate headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif.
