HarrisData Releases MES Solution for AS/400

A new product recently released by HarrisData (Brookfield, Wis.) will allow mid-sized manufacturers to run an integrated Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution on a single AS/400 server.

HarrisData Manufacturing Execution, the latest edition to HarrisData’s Manufacturing Application suite, is designed to lower total cost of ownership for mid-sized manufacturers implementing MES by offering combined ERP and MES on a single AS/400 server. This allows businesses to implement the new solution without significant investment in IT infrastructure.

MES is used by manufacturers to improve operational efficiency and customer service with reduced cycle time, reduced lead-time and elimination of paperwork between shifts. HarrisData Manufacturing Execution includes five basic MES functions—Shop Floor Scheduler, Online Dispatch, Shop Floor Data Collection, Time and Attendance tracking and Shop Floor Labor Management—which allow mid-sized manufacturers to control and automate shop floor processes and scheduling in a real-time environment.

Manufacturing Execution extends HarrisData’s open architecture approach and facilitates the connection to any open data collection device, which allows customers to connect current and future data collection devices to their system.

“Our goal was to provide MES to our mid-sized customers in an affordable package,” says Lane Nelson, HarrisData VP of marketing. “We needed to deliver all of the functionality, but fundamentally change the total cost picture.”
