Remote access solution provider Perle Systems (Westmont, Ill.) and network security specialists Hi/fn Inc. (Los Gates, Calif.) announced this week a new license agreement to integrate the two companies’ popular products.

Under the partnership agreement, Perle’s 594 Network Controller product line will now include Hi/fn’s IPSECure compression and encryption software, combining a standard in business security with a leader in advanced branch office connectivity.

Perle’s 594 family of products allows customers to run SNA across an IP network and supports IP devices at remote sites through integrated routing features. The IPSECure toolkit features IPSec network protocol and data compression on the same platform, to provide Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections without sacrificing transmission speed. Hi/fn’s compression technology boosts performance by reducing the volume of transmitted data and by avoiding packet fragmentation. It ensures secure VPN capabilities while maintaining high performance by enabling encryption and authentication without breaking layer two compression.

According to Sean O’Donovan, VP of worldwide marketing for Perle, the integration of the IPSECure technology enhances Perle’s 594e Network Controller’s capability in the implementation of a VPN infrastructure.

“The selection of the Hi/fn best of breed technology is another milestone towards achieving Perle’s vision for e-business access for AS/400 branch offices,” O’Donovan says. “Our customers can maximize security measures and access speeds across the Internet, while benefiting from the cost savings of VPN.”
