Sun/Netscape Alliance Supports OnDisplay's XML Connect
iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, has joined the growing list of e-commerce leaders that have voiced support for OnDisplay's XML Connect initiative. XML Connect is a free, downloadable software product that allows e-commerce participants - including buyers, suppliers and e-marketplaces – to establish secure, reliable, guaranteed XML business document exchange, without the need to install and manage closed or proprietary XML servers. With XML Connect acting as a standardized XML transport, e-commerce participants can achieve secure document exchange quickly and easily.
"We believe XML Connect can accomplish for B2B commerce what Java accomplished for Web applications in general," says Jim Adkins, Vice President of iPlanet's e-commerce applications division. "By providing an industry standard for XML transport that is open, encrypted and highly reliable, XML Connect will accelerate the adoption of XML as the language of e-commerce."
Launched on Feb. 3, the new product has already garnered support from such industry leaders as Sterling Commerce, PurchasePro.com, SciQuest.com, Vignette, TPN Register and GE Information Services.
"Leveraged in conjunction with iPlanet's comprehensive e-commerce applications and services, XML Connect can enable buyers, suppliers and open marketplaces to leapfrog their competition by establishing fast, secure and scalable integration with trading partners online," Adkins adds.
iPlanet E-Commerce Solutions, a Sun-Netscape Alliance, was established in March 1999 by America Online Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. to provide easy-to-deploy, comprehensive e-commerce solutions for the Net Economy.
