CSP Inc. subsidiary MODCOMP recently released WAP66 Portal Server, a product designed to provide Internet, intranet and mobile users with access to company data from remote locations.

WAP66 is a wireless access protocol (WAP) solution that allows mobile access to company information stored on corporate mainframes and other computer systems. WAP is a developing industry-standard transport mechanism that enables mobile devices to communicate with the Internet. WAP66 creates a mobile e-business environment which gives users remote access and real-time transaction capability.

“WAP66 Protocol Server is a vital link for the decentralized mobile workforce,” says Rob Crigler, VP of marketing for MODCOMP e-commerce division. “The open systems environment lets any organization dynamically customize this solution for their own computer environment to address the specific needs of ‘on the road’ executives.”

MODCOMP’s ability to provide rapid deployment of mobile applications to access enterprise systems developed from the extension of the company’s ViewMax integration software to support wireless markup language (WML).

WAP66 generates WML pages at run-time, rather than transforming HTML to WML coding. The product is designed to be user-friendly, allow easy configuration based on Java 2 technology. It can process information in various formats including ASCII, HTML or XML files and SQL queries, among others. WAP66 also supports most hardware platforms and operating systems, including Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX and Windows NT.

WAP66 was released last week at CeBit in Hanover Germany. Standard pricing begins at $5,000, plus configuration services and user licensing.
