AS/400 users now have a new tool to assist them in the complicated task of data mining. ShowCase Corp. (Rochester, Minn.), in a joint development effort with IBM, has introduced the IBM DB2 OLAP Server for AS/400, providing AS/400 users with a new high-performance business intelligence solution.

“[The] release of the IBM DB2 OLAP Server marks a significant milestone for IBM, ShowCase and the thousands of AS/400 customer organizations who will benefit from the power of this fully integrated server platform to meet their rapidly growing business intelligence and analytic needs,” says Ken Holec, president and CEO of ShowCase. “We are proud to share in the development of DB2 OLAP with IBM and to now offer our Enterprise Intelligence solutions to a significantly broader base of IBM AS/400 customers.”

The new server gives users a relational storage manager specifically designed to optimize the analytical capability of ShowCase’s Essbase/400 product, while maximizing the open, scalable AS/400 platform.

The joint development initiative began with the announcement of an OEM contract between ShowCase and IBM established June 12. The deal gives IBM access to ShowCase’s Essbase for the AS/400the core technology embedded in DB2 OLAP and within IBM-developed BI solutions to be sold to the AS/400 customer base. IBM also gains access to ShowCase’s data transformation tool Warehouse Builder, which has been integrated into IBM’s DB2 OLAP solution as DB2 OLAP Builder.
