Sagent Names Former IBM Exec as President and CEO
Sagent Technology Inc., a provider of real-time e-Business Intelligence solutions, has named Ben C. Barnes as its new President and CEO. Barnes will also join the company's board of directors. Barnes joins Sagent from IBM, where he was General Manager of the company's Global Business Intelligence Solutions unit, as well as a member of IBM's Senior Management Group.
Barnes will have responsibility for all operational and strategic matters of the company, with his initial emphasis on sales and marketing. Ken Gardner, co-founder of Sagent, will become Chairman of the board, a newly created position, focusing on the development of new products and strategic business initiatives.
"I intend to drive Sagent's growth by increasing the solutions and applications business," says Barnes. "I will also expand the relationships with business partners, including IBM; broaden the technology base, including UNIX; increase international sales and build a larger consulting and services business."
Barnes brings more than 30 years of high-tech sales and marketing experience, including 20 years of management and executive experience to Sagent. In his seven years at IBM, he launched the UNIX parallel processor, the IBM RS/6000 SP, and created and grew the Global Business Intelligence Solutions unit from a start-up operation, to what industry analysts have estimated to be a driving force for the more than $4 billion in business intelligence sales across IBM. He managed this global, entrepreneurial team, of development, marketing, consulting and services specialists as he grew this business for IBM.
