Vision, IBM Work Together on Clustering Solutions

Vision Solutions continues to work with IBM to demonstrate the capabilities of its clustering technology at this week’s IBM Technical Developer Conference in San Francisco called Solutions. At the show, Big Blue will be using Vision Solutions’ Vision Suite to provide cluster management with Domino for IBM eServer iSeries.

Domino for the iSeries is a ClusterProven solution, which is a designation IBM gives its server products that are equipped with resiliency features such as automated failover and backup.

In addition to working with Domino for the iSeries, Vision Suite will also showcase data resiliency using J.D. Edwards OneWorld Xe ClusterProven for iSeries running on OS/400 Version 5 Release 1, the latest version of the IBM eServer iSeries operating system.

"This demonstration offers clear proof of the powerful combination of IBM eServer technologies, cluster middleware and ClusterProven applications in the brave new world that demands that systems are available all the time," said Ron Peterson, IBM eServer iSeries cluster project manager in a statement.

Vision Solutions' Vision Suite is a highly recommended and widely deployed solution for high availability, disaster recovery and continuous operations on the iSeries. Vision Suite is cluster-enabled making systems 99.999 percent available against planned and unplanned downtime. Vision Suite's clustering technology provides seamless failovers by automatically switching end users to recovery iSeries servers.

In June, Vision Solutions conducted the first-ever live demonstration of Vision Suite's clustering capabilities with OneWorld Xe and OS/400 Version 5 Release 1. The demonstration, conducted at FOCUS 2001, was performed on two IBM eServer iSeries systems in a live clustered mode, and simulated power failures, planned outage switchovers and system failovers.

Since that time, Vision Solutions has been working with IBM in its labs in Rochester, Minn., to continue testing its clustering capabilities with a variety of ClusterProven software applications.

"With the industry moving more toward clustering as the next-generation of availability technology, the need for companies to break new ground in this area is growing," said Nicolaas Vlok, CEO of Vision Solutions in a statement. "Vision Solutions is committed to remaining on that leading edge, making it possible to be a part of groundbreaking efforts such as the demonstration at Solutions 2001."
