IBM Ships Regatta
New Unix server is now available
IBM Corp’s new flagship Unix server is now readily available. IBM said Friday its p690 "Regatta" server is available in the channel for customers.
Regatta is IBM’s first server to use its Power 4 processor architecture. Power 4 crams two processors, memory cache, and I/O controllers onto a single chip for better SMP performance.
Like IBM’s mainframes Regatta has partitioning capabilities enabling it to run as many as 16 partitions with AIX or Linux. It also shares fault-tolerance features with the mainframe like redundant memory modules and system logging.
