CA Updates Mainframe SRM
Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) has updated its BrightStor CA-Vantage Storage Resource Manager (SRM) product for mainframes.
According to a CA spokesperson, the new 6.2 release offers several significant advantages over previous editions of the software. Chief among them: Support for IBM Corp.'s DB2 database server for the OS/390 and z/OS mainframe operating systems. According to CA, it allows storage administrators to manage DB2 data but they are no longer required to have an in-depth knowledge of DB2.
The 6.2 release also adds an enhanced interface that allows storage reports to be easily created in spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel. In addition, information can be accessed through e-mail clients like Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook.
According to Gartner Inc., BrightStor CA-Vantage Storage Resource Manager is a set of utilities for managing and planning storage pools. It provides forecasting, volume management, storage policies and other duties to reflect the business demands on storage.
