Permeo Application Security Gateway v5.0 Addresses Demand for Advanced Secure Remote Access and Secure Collaboration

New version drastically enhances ease of extending secure access to all enterprise applications

Dallas, TX – October 27, 2003 - Permeo Technologies Inc., the leader in enterprise application security gateways with over 30 percent of the Global 100 as customers, announces the latest version of its Application Security Gateway, moving significantly beyond classic SSL VPNs and other application security gateway products. A flexible solution used for SSL remote access and secure outbound proxy access, the new version adds a powerful web-based remote management console that delivers quick and easy installation, configuration, and ongoing administration. Further building on its core ability to extend application access across internal and external network perimeters, the Permeo solution also introduces native support for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), enabling firewall traversal for many of today’s popular collaborative applications.

"With the release of v5 Permeo significantly advances the power and potential of their Application Security Gateway. Given the growth in business needs to enable secure application access while providing the highest levels of security, the Permeo product family is a solution that every enterprise should evaluate as they connect local and remote employees, customers, partners, and suppliers to critical business applications,” said Jeff Wilson, Executive Director of Infonetics Research.

Ease of implementation and management are hallmarks of successful enterprise security solutions that prove to enhance business while minimizing administrative costs. With Application Security Gateway v5, Permeo introduces a simple, one-step installation process that cuts setup time to approximately fifteen minutes. The management console in v5 is based on a comprehensive, web-based interface derived from industry benchmarks, customer input, and usability experts with the goal of allowing non-security experts to easily enable full application access with the highest levels of security.

"This new version from Permeo provides an easy-to-use, intuitive user interface that will enhance the ease of implementation and overall management experience," said Joseph Dell, CTO of Vigilar, one of Permeo’s leading solution providers. "Permeo has taken what can be complicated and tedious processes and rolled them into an infrastructure that makes better use of the security manager’s time and resources."

Many of today’s most anticipated and popular applications, including voice over IP (VoIP) applications and peer-to-peer collaborative services, utilize the SIP protocol. The primary deployment challenge with these applications is to extend secure remote and outbound SIP-based application access through well configured enterprise firewalls. Most enterprise firewalls have to be opened – resulting in reduced security – to enable traversal of SIP-based applications. With Permeo Application Security Gateway v5.0 enterprise firewalls can be kept secure with no open and vulnerable ports while allowing SIP-based applications to easily extend between segregated networks.

"Permeo has made a commitment to customers to continue helping them extend secure anywhere access to any business application. In addition to enhancing the capabilities of clientless SSL remote access and greatly simplifying the ease of installation and management, with v5 we are introducing native support for the Session Initiation Protocol," said Joe Pollard, CEO of Permeo Technologies. "Permeo continues to make significant investments in providing the only application security gateway that stays ahead of industry trends and provides the application and protocol support required by the largest and most demanding enterprise customers. Our support for SIP is the latest example of this commitment."

Additional new features in v5 include:

  • Enhanced support for PKI based authentication (in addition to existing support for RADIUS, LDAP, Active Directory, User ID and RSA SecureID)

  • Support for Palm handhelds (in addition to existing PocketPC support)
  • Java support for Permeo Clientless Agent (in addition to existing ActiveX support)

Permeo ASG v5 is currently in beta with commercial availability planned for December 2003.

About Permeo Application Security Gateway

Many CIOs and network security managers face a common problem today: how to enable their businesses to have access to the applications they need without undermining network security. Because traditional network security products are designed to limit access to the network, any increases in access to applications for employees, partners, and customers result in a corresponding decrease in network security. Permeo Application Gateway provides the ideal solution which allows an enterprise to extend the applications to the users who need them irrespective of what network they are on and without compromising network security.
