Software AG Enables Adabas Data Publishing using XML and Web Services

EntireX XML Gateway helps organizations speed business processes, improve decision-making, and increase competitiveness

ORLANDO, Fl, October 22, 2003 - Software AG, Inc., a pioneer in XML solutions, today announced the availability of EntireX XML Gateway, which enables organizations to quickly and easily publish Adabas data using XML and Web services. Thousands of organizations worldwide store their mission critical data on Software AG's Adabas system, one of the world's fastest databases. EntireX XML Gateway allows these organizations to conveniently access and share Adabas data with business partners 24 hours-a-day, helping to speed business processes, improve decision making and increase competitiveness. The announcement was made during Gartner's Symposium/ITxpo 2003.

Standardized technology with high usability EntireX XML Gateway harnesses XML technology to enable the generation and deployment of Web services that read or update data in Adabas. The product includes a browser-based administration tool that supports the deployment of the generated Web services, as well as an adapter that enables access to Adabas (adapters to other popular relational database management systems are available). Using EntireX XML Gateway involves five steps:

  • Generate - a wizard facilitates selection of Adabas fields, files and data access methods, and then automatically generates the Web service according to the WSDL (Web Services Description Language) standard

  • Deploy - an administration console enables deployment of the Web service to an application server, and creates registration entries to make the Web service available to be called by authorized users

  • Invoke - a Web service enabled application locates the appropriate registration entries and then calls the Web service over the Internet using a SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) request

  • Execute - the Web service retrieves the pre-specified data from Adabas and returns the data to the requesting application via SOAP in the form of an XML document

  • Administer - the administration console supports the deployment, removal, testing and monitoring of the generated Web services

EntireX XML Gateway is currently available on Windows 2000 and Windows XP, as well as Sun Solaris 7 and 8; additional platforms are planned. Access to Adabas is supported on all platforms. Supported application servers include JBoss, BEA Weblogic and IBM Websphere.

In addition to the adapter to Adabas, EntireX XML Gateway is also available with adapters to Oracle, other relational database management systems (RDBMS), and EntireX Mediator. EntireX XML Gateway is priced at $25,000 per adapter.

The EntireX Family of Products EntireX XML Gateway is part of the EntireX family of products, which includes EntireX Communicator, EntireX Mediator and EntireX Adapters.
