Symantec Announces New Web-Based Secure Remote Access Solution

Symantec offers customers increased cost savings and ease-of-use with new clientless VPN appliance line

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Feb. 2, 2004 – Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced the Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway 4400 Series. The new appliance line provides customers easy-to-manage, secure remote access to corporate networks. Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway reduces the cost of providing remote access by eliminating the need for IT administrators to install and manage VPN client software deployments. The Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway 4400 Series is scheduled to be available in mid-February.

Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway appliances offer flexible configuration and powerful management options for seamless integration into existing network infrastructures. IT administrators can easily assign access to applications according to user need or requirements. This allows enterprises to easily roll out secure remote access to meet business objectives and increase efficiency.

“Symantec is providing its customers with a more efficient solution to securely connect employees, customers and business partners without the hassles of managing or deploying VPN client software,” said Greg Gotta, vice president, gateway and network security, Symantec Corp. “Unlike other vendors that only offer SSL VPN and optional capabilities, Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway provides all the features and flexibility of traditional VPN technology without the need to plan and budget for add-on features.”

Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway includes a base license that allows remote users to securely access both web-enabled and non-web-enabled applications from virtually anywhere. Reading email, accessing applications, downloading files or using Web applications is as simple and familiar as surfing the Web or as using the target applications when in the office.

All network communications are protected with strong banking-grade encryption. The Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway appliance is an application-level reverse proxy that is built using Symantec’s field-tested security technology. This technology helps customers eliminate the most common network and operating system security vulnerabilities such as worms, viruses and Trojan horses.

Licensing and Availability

In order to accommodate varying business needs, the Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway 4400 Series will be offered in two different models (4420 and 4460), starting at an estimated retail price of $9495. The two models enable customers to purchase appliances that offer a maximum number of concurrent sessions that best meets their corporate needs. The base price includes one year of telephone support, advanced replacement and upgrade insurance.

Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway offers comprehensive features needed to provide secure remote access at an affordable price. The base model of the appliance includes features such as native application support, granular administration and access controls, and mobile device access capability.

Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway 4400 Series is scheduled to be available in mid-February through Symantec’s worldwide network of value-added resellers, distributors and systems integrators.
