Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins Simplify Multiple-Password Maintenance

Flexible Password Authentication Solutions for IBM Lotus Technology

Amherst, NH, February 9, 2004 – PistolStar Inc. today announces Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins, a suite of password authentication tools for IBM Lotus technology. Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins help end the frustration of maintaining separate passwords for Windows NT, 2000 or XP, Domino Web servers, Sametime Connect and a Lotus Notes client by allowing end-users to use their Microsoft Active Directory password to access any of these systems. By allowing end-users to remember and make changes to only one password in one place, Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins remove the need to engage IT and wait for a new password, eliminating end-users’ downtime and allowing both end-users and administrators to be more productive.

The following are offered in the Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins suite, yet they are available individually:

  • Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Operating Systems (APO)

  • Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Notes (APN)

  • Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Domino (APD)

  • Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Sametime Connect (APS)

Password Power Authentication Plug-ins Deliver Numerous Benefits

Organizations have a great deal to gain with the implementation of Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins, each of which produces the following benefits:

  • Reduces the number of times an end-user must supply log-on information during a Windows session to a single instance.

  • Automatically updates Internet or Notes ID file passwords when a password is changed in Windows.

  • Enhances security of corporate data by automatically passing on security policies to passwords included in the synching process (i.e., HTTP password, Notes passwords or both).

  • Enables the Help Desk to allocate fewer resources for managing passwords.

  • Allows end-users to only remember and make changes to one password in one place, which decreases likelihood of end-users jotting down passwords and becoming a target for internal network intruders.

  • Removes need for end-users to call IT and wait for a new password, eliminating downtime and allowing greater productivity.

  • Generates ease for IT with addressing Domino questions, since Domino and Windows password security become one.

  • Creates convenience and saves login time.

“As companies provide employees, vendors, and customers around the world with access to enterprise-wide business applications, end-users are accumulating several usernames and passwords to gain access to these systems,” said Roberta J. Witty, research director, Security & Privacy, Gartner, Inc. “To address the issues arising from the abundance of end-user credentials, companies need a solution that will simplify and secure the password management process for end-users, thereby freeing up the time and resources used by IT to respond to password-related calls.”

“Password management can present a tremendous challenge to end-users and become a major IT burden that produces large overhead. With multiple passwords, security becomes an indisputable concern as opportunities for hackers expand and end-users leave passwords on notes near their computers,” said Thomas Hoey, president, PistolStar, Inc. “By enabling companies to provide easy access to the multiple platforms, servers and applications in their IT systems while adding security to the authentication process, the Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins deliver immediate results that benefit all levels in an organization, from end-users to IT to senior management.”

Password Power Authentication Plug-Ins Simplify and Secure Access to Critical Applications

Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Operating Systems (APO) – Combines the functionality of multi-password synchronization with a single sign-on utility. End-users logon only once — authenticating against Microsoft Active Directory — and access all applications on Domino servers in multiple domains. Multi-password synchronization enables optional synching of the end-users’ passwords for Windows NT, Domino HTTP, LDAP, Active Directory, and Lotus Notes ID files.

Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Notes (APN) – Enables end-users to access Lotus Notes applications via the Notes client by authenticating against Microsoft Active Directory.

Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Domino (APD) – Allows Microsoft Active Directory authentication for Domino Web sessions — iNotes, Lotus Instant Messaging & Web Conferencing (Sametime), Lotus Team Workplace (QuickPlace) and Domino Web applications.

Password Power Authentication Plug-In for Sametime Connect (APS) – Permits Sametime Connect users to employ their Microsoft Active Directory password for Sametime Connect authentication. This Plug-In supports Lotus Sametime versions 2.5 and 3.0.

System Requirements

Password Power APO is a server and client-side solution, while APN is client-side, and APD and APS are server-side. The Password Power Plug-Ins integrate seamlessly with IBM Lotus technology and don’t require end-user setup.
