21st Century Software, Inc. Announces VFI/X™ Availability
Mainframe quality data protection for the distributed world
Orlando, Florida — March 15, 2004 — At the Disaster Recovery Journal's (DRJ) Spring World Business Continuity Conference, 21st Century Software, a leading provider of data recovery management solutions, announced immediate availability of VFI/X – Vital File Identifier for Distributed Systems, the latest addition to its renowned DR/VFI™ product family. VFI/X provides the same quality and features of the mainframe versions, but optimized to support distributed platforms.
The entire DR/VFI product family protects vital business data by providing intelligent, automatic identification, backup and recovery of the enterprise’s mission critical files. It constantly monitors computer systems in real time and collects the information needed to update its critical file databases, noting additions and changes to file usage by business application systems. Collected information is then analyzed to determine which files require backup, schedules are created and the necessary computer processes are initiated to perform backup operations.
VFI/X further expands these capabilities by enabling centralized audit and tracking of backup data at the application level for all monitored machines, integrating all the information needed for recovery. Centralization of critical data and automated recovery reduces potential errors and provides integrity to the overall recovery process. VFI/X is easy to install, highly flexible, and easily adapted to existing recovery plans as well as any preferred backup methodology. It will even generate recovery scripts to enable rapid restoration of critical applications in a prioritized manner.

VFI/X Release 1.0
This initial release of VFI/X supports Sun Solaris 8 and above (SPARC 32/64 and x86 platforms). HP UX, Linux, IBM AIX, and Microsoft Windows NT/200x/XP versions will be released over the next few months. Mainframe versions of DR/VFI are also currently available for IBM System/390 or compatible, supporting OS/390 and z/OS.
