Ontrack Data Recovery Introduces PowerControlsT Version 3.0
New features expand e-mail system support and offer improved recovery for Microsoft Exchange systems
MINNEAPOLIS - October 19, 2004 - Ontrack Data Recovery today announced the availability of Ontrack® PowerControlsT 3.0 software, the newest version of its widely used mailbox recovery tool. This upgraded version helps Microsoft Exchange administrators save time and deliver better recovery performance with expanded e-mail system support for IBM/Tivoli users and new automation from the command line.
"As companies are faced with more demands placed on their e-mail systems, creative and efficient solutions are needed to help them work with old e-mail records contained on backup for the purposes of message-level recovery, regulatory compliance, internal investigations, or disaster recovery procedures," said Jim Reinert, senior director of Software and Services for Ontrack Data Recovery. "PowerControls 3.0 helps solve many of these issues by offering a faster, easier method for locating and recovering old mail items from disk or tape backups."
PowerControls, which recently earned "Verified for Microsoft Windows XP" status through independent testing, is used by IT professionals to quickly and easily search, copy, and restore message-level or individual mailbox items from any previous full backup, un-mounted databases (.edb) and Information Store files. Working with a company's existing Exchange backup architecture, PowerControls slashes restore time, eliminates brick-level back-ups, minimizes the time it takes to locate all e-mails matching specific criteria using advanced searching capabilities, and eliminates the need for an Exchange recovery server. PowerControls 3.0 contains all of the features and benefits of the current 2.1 product, plus many more.
New ExtractWizard Agent for IBM/Tivoli Support
PowerControls 3.0 now offers IBM Tivoli users ExtractWizard support for Tivoli Storage Manager 5.0, 5.1, and 5.2 backup formats. Now serving a total of six different backup formats, ExtractWizard helps to restore Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store data from tape and disk backups to any alternate location (e.g., machine, volume, folder), thereby eliminating the need to restore backups to a duplicate Exchange Server -- better known as a "recovery server."
By providing the fastest method for recovering and restoring messages from IBM Tivoli, PowerControls makes it easier for users of this popular e-mail backup solution to meet compliance requirements. Support is also available for Microsoft® NT Backup, Veritas BackupExecT, Legato NetWorker®, Computer Associates® BrightStorT ARCServe® and Veritas NetBackupT formats.
Free Trial Version Includes ExtractWizard
To give administrators a comprehensive preview of the new version's capabilities, the PowerControls Free Trial will include ExtractWizard functionality which allows users to read, view and catalog all supported backup formats. In addition, PowerControls Free Trial allows users to save a catalog file that will subsequently work with the full retail edition of PowerControls ExtractWizard Agent.
New Level of Automation Command Line Flexibility
Because administrators like to have the option of running from the command line as well as from the graphical user interface (GUI) level, this new version provides users with both options. A new Command Line interface allows users to easily batch repetitive processes such as multiple copy and export tasks without initiating the PowerControls user interface.
PowerControls 3.0 also offers these new and expanded capabilities:
Enables users to open multiple sources and targets simultaneously
Open Microsoft PST files as a source
Allows Management to control permissions for sensitive information
Improved reporting options
Improved GUI, as well as view tasks, calendar, and contacts -- similar to Outlook

Different editions of PowerControls 3.0 are available with pricing beginning at $950 for 100 mailboxes by calling Ontrack at 1-800-872-2599 or online at http://www.ontrack.com.
