Shavlik Security Agents 5 Caters to Companies with Specific Agent-based Requirements

(May 17, 2005) - Shavlik Technologies, LLC, a leading security software and services provider, today announced the commercial availability of its updated Shavlik Security Agents(tm) 5 security patch management solution. The agent-based application gives network administrators the option to roll out patches via agents for customer applications that require them.
This solution is integrated with the industry-leading agentless patch management solution, Shavlik HFNetChkPro(tm) 5, and leverages the enhanced features of Shavlik HFNetChkPro(tm) 5, including advanced reporting with charts and graphs. Shavlik Security Agents(tm) 5 and Shavlik HFNetChkPro(tm) 5 can work independently or together to provide the most comprehensive patch management solution on the market.
While the majority of networks today are well served with agentless patch management, some applications respond better with an agent-based solution. Machines required to reside in a demilitarized zone (DMZ), mobile users, and disconnected or inactive machines can be better served by agent technology, which collects and computes information locally, then transmits data to a central server or network console. Agents can also be important when administrators need to minimize information transmitted to the server or decrease overall network traffic.

Shavlik is also expanding its patch management solutions for UNIX(r) operating systems. The Shavlik UNIX solutions will help secure a wide-range of UNIX operating systems, including AIX, HP-UX, Red Hat Linux, and Solaris. Delivery is scheduled for the second quarter of mid-2005 for Red Hat and Solaris with additional platform support soon to follow.
