Tumbleweed's Managed File Transfer Solution Protects Data Privacy, Guarantees Information Delivery
New version of SecureTransport offers secure and reliable alternative to file transfers via physical media or unsecured FTP
Redwood City, CA - June 15, 2005 - Tumbleweed® Communications Corp., a leading provider of file transfer and e-mail security solutions, today announced the latest update to Tumbleweed SecureTransport™, the company's award-winning managed file transfer solution. This release of SecureTransport extends the security, authentication, and reliable delivery capabilities enterprises need to protect the privacy of sensitive data exchanged with trading partners and customers:
Security - SSH (Secure Shell) has been added as an additional secure file transfer protocol; SecureTransport now supports secure file transfer using HTTPS, FTPS (FTP over SSL), SFTP (FTP over SSH), PGP, and AS2
Authentication - Turnkey integration with eTrust Siteminder single sign-on (SSO) from Computer Associates enables organizations to leverage existing authentication infrastructure to manage data access and security policies for customers, partners, and internal users, protecting data from unauthorized access; SecureTransport now provides both a robust internal trading-partner management and authentication infrastructure, as well as the ability to integrate with and leverage external trading partner management systems
Reliable Delivery - An updated AS2 engine, certified by the Drummond Group for interoperability, now supports large multi-GB file transfers; SecureTransport provides reliable data transfer, guaranteed delivery, strong file integrity checking, and checkpoint/restart, even over unstable network connections or dial-up lines.
According to an ongoing report by the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, over 10 million people have been notified that their personal information has been compromised in the last three and a half months alone. While these losses have resulted from a combination of hacks, insider breaches, and lost laptops, over half have been the direct result of computer tapes being lost or stolen in transit. When losses occur, the brand and customers of the originator of the data, trusted with their protection, are placed at risk.
"With the increase of public awareness of data privacy breaches by large, well-recognized Fortune 500 corporations, every organization that collects, manages, or exchanges sensitive customer data needs to consider how they are securing and managing their file transfers," said Frank Kenney, Principal Analyst, Gartner. "File transfer solutions such as courier services for physical media and homegrown file transfer solutions solely using unsecured FTP can be vulnerable to data privacy breaches, through accidental disclosure, hackers, and fraud. Managed File Transfer suites should be heavily considered when dealing with the movement of large amounts of sensitive data to help protect from these types of data privacy breaches."
Based on open standards, Tumbleweed SecureTransport is an enterprise-class managed file-transfer solution for moving financial transactions, critical business files, large documents, XML, and EDI transactions over the Internet and private IP networks. SecureTransport provides a secure, integrated Internet alternative to legacy file-transfer methods like physical media exchanges or standard FTP, allowing organizations to retain full control with authenticated access, integrated security policies, audit trails, strong encryption, and guaranteed delivery with non-repudiation.
"Ironically, recent events are demonstrating that the Internet can be more secure than the physical world when it comes to moving around personal information," said Jeffrey Smith, President and CEO of Tumbleweed. "Companies are being held accountable for what happens to the information they're entrusted with. Our SecureTransport solution gives our customers the control and management they need to ensure that they're living up to that trust."
