CA’s Vision Unifies, Simplifies IT Management Across the Enterprise

EITM-enabled products empower customers to control costs, optimize service levels, manage risk, and align IT investments with the business

LAS VEGAS, November 14, 2005 – CA today announced Enterprise IT Management (EITM), its vision for unifying and simplifying management of IT across the enterprise. CA also announced 26 EITM-enabled products that empower customers to better control costs, optimize service levels, manage risk, and align IT investments with the business.

Leveraging an architectural foundation that promotes the integration and sharing of management processes, data and user interfaces, EITM provides a path for proactive enterprise-wide IT management that enables organizations to optimize resource allocation in anticipation of business needs. It ties together management of the entire enterprise IT environment – including end-users, infrastructure, data, applications, IT services and business processes.

In addition to streamlining core IT disciplines such as fault and change management, EITM’s service-oriented approach eliminates the “silos” that historically have limited an IT organization’s ability to effectively manage disparate technologies. It therefore makes it easier to enhance and monitor the end-to-end impact of IT on the business.

As the world’s leading independent provider of IT management solutions, CA is uniquely able to provide customers with this consistent, integrated approach for managing their multi-vendor, multi-generation enterprise IT environments.

“Businesses today run on a complex amalgamation of technologies ranging from 25-year-old legacy databases to state-of-the-art RFID systems,” said CA President and CEO John Swainson. “As long as the management of those technologies remains fragmented, IT-related costs and vulnerabilities will be higher than necessary, and organizations will not realize the full economic value of their IT assets. CA’s EITM vision addresses these central issues by bringing unprecedented unity to technology ownership – enabling our customers to leverage their past, present and future IT investments more effectively than ever before.”

Continuous Alignment and Optimization of Technology Investments

CA is delivering 26 EITM-enabled products, spanning the full range of management and security disciplines, that are dynamically driven by business policies and automated workflows to ensure continuous alignment and optimization of technology investments.

The products are tightly integrated through the CA Integration Platform, which provides a workflow engine, management database (MDB), shared policies and a consistent user interface to enable customers to effectively integrate and orchestrate their technologies, people and processes to support their business goals. Utilizing a Service Oriented Architecture, the CA Integration Platform contains a rich set of management and security services that deliver a consistent user interface and operation across products.

“We’re using CA solutions to do everything from monitoring our DASD storage to protecting our desktops from the latest spyware threats,” said Harry Butler, support center manager at EFW, a full-service electronics supplier specializing in sophisticated hardware and software solutions for upgrade, integration and enhancement projects undertaken by the defense and aerospace industries. “By bringing these multiple management functions into a common architecture, EITM will enable us to map IT services to the business – so we can operate more effectively and ensure that everything we do directly supports our most pressing business priorities.”

CA’s EITM-enabled products are available as individual modules and integrated suite components, enabling customers to add functionality and derive value as required. Products include:

  • BrightStor Storage Command Center: Provides intuitive, business-centric insight into the enterprise storage environment, transforming raw technical information into an intuitive “dashboard” that lets IT management quickly assess performance and understand how storage assets are supporting key business processes.

  • CA Identity Manager: Automates the management of user identities to manage risk, enhance regulatory compliance and reduce administration costs.

  • Unicenter Advanced Systems Management (Unicenter ASM): Provides extensive insight into the status, performance, and dependencies of complex assets, such as clusters and virtualized platforms, enabling organizations to visualize advanced systems and optimize operations using resource brokering.

  • Unicenter Asset Intelligence: Provides an executive-level view into key IT performance indicators – enabling organizations to pinpoint anomalies, avoid unnecessary expenditures, assess risk and comply with industry regulations.

  • Unicenter Network and Systems Management (Unicenter NSM): Enables organizations to continuously assess and manage complex, multi-vendor IT infrastructures, correlating events from networks, systems, applications and databases to determine business impact and accelerate mean-time-to-repair.

  • Unicenter Service Desk: Centralizes, automates and simplifies the management of support activities including incident, problem and change management processes, leveraging industry standard best practices such as ITIL.

  • Unicenter Service Intelligence: Provides service-focused financial, performance, utilization and risk information to help customers make smarter decisions about how to optimally allocate infrastructure, people and budgets to meet business needs.

CA also is delivering 60 additional mainframe and distributed products that leverage some component of the CA Integration Platform.

To help customers more quickly and efficiently realize the benefits of EITM, CA is offering EITM Accelerators. EITM Accelerators, which include CA’s patented Integrated IT flows, provide customers with multiple EITM “entry points” that consist of people, processes, and technologies. The people are from CA and solution partners. The processes are proven best practices. The technologies include CA’s reference architecture and solutions, along with certified third-party products.

By providing both the technology and the ancillary services to improve efficiency and deliver measurable ROI, CA can help customers migrate toward more holistic IT management -- which benefits the organization as a whole as well as its various objective-specific projects.

“IT organizations are focusing on transforming themselves to a services- and process-based model. This will require process development, software for process integration and automation, and service development and definitions,” said Ray Paquet, managing vice president, Gartner, Inc. “All of this is designed to help IT run more like a business for the purpose of supporting and enhancing their corporate/business initiatives that go beyond IT specific initiatives.”
