3PAR Introduces System Reporter for Metering Utility Storage
Fremont, CA, March 15, 2006 -- 3PAR®, a leading provider of utility storage, today announced the availability of 3PAR System Reporter, a Web-based historical performance and capacity management reporting tool for the 3PAR InServ® Storage Server. 3PAR System Reporter provides critical system data for multiple InServs, even if the systems are geographically dispersed. System Reporter is particularly useful for service providers and enterprises requiring detailed information for service-level administration.
"We have multiple 3PAR arrays that support critical applications within Claria," said Oswald D'sa, CIO of Claria Corporation, a leader in online behavioral marketing solutions. "System Reporter makes a simple storage platform even easier to manage by providing vital information, instantly and easily, for our entire 3PAR installation."
System Reporter simplifies performance monitoring and can even aid in application performance analysis. With System Reporter, users can create and display reports by server and by application data set (virtual LUN) to highlight key performance metrics such as I/O’s per second, megabytes per second, and I/O service times (latency per I/O). High-resolution data sampling can be set as often as one-minute increments to suit a specific activity or reporting need.
With System Reporter, management of the inventory, growth, and procurement of data storage capacity is also simplified. For example, InServ users can instantly determine capacity utilization and configuration metrics by application, or across multiple InServs worldwide. For applications leveraging 3PAR Thin Provisioning, System Reporter can easily create and display reports that show written, raw and exported capacity over time -- critical information for measuring capacity utilization.
System Reporter can also be used in conjunction with other 3PAR tools like 3PAR Dynamic Optimization. Dynamic Optimization can be used to convert application data volumes of a given quality-of-service (QoS) level to a higher or lower QoS level depending on the business requirement. System Reporter helps predict periods of peak usage so application volumes can be optimized for maximum performance only during such periods, reducing the need to over-provision storage resources for peak demand. System Reporter also measures changes in raw capacity consumption following a Dynamic Optimization, such as conversion of a RAID 10 application volume to RAID 50.
“A core competency of any utility-based data center is the ability to monitor, measure, report, and bill for services or resources used. With 3PAR gaining significant adoption at large financials and service providers, System Reporter is the perfect meter for those running their business on utility storage,” said Greg Schulz, StorageIO Founder and Senior Analyst. “This tool is ideal for the IT utility which has service level agreements, or for those with several 3PAR arrays who need to understand capacity utilization on the floor or around the world.”
“3PAR System Reporter is the next logical management tool for many of our customers who have deployed hundreds of terabytes on InServs distributed across multiple data centers,” said David Scott, President and CEO at 3PAR. “Our customers’ participation in a rigorous design and beta program has made this an indispensable tool for managing a utility computing environment.”
System Reporter is available immediately. Street pricing for System Reporter is $6,000 for an entry-level system.
