Siemens Enhances Wireless LAN Security, Management Control and Regulatory Compliance with Modular Addition to its HiPath Wireless Portfolio

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- April 18, 2006 -- Siemens Communications Inc. today announced HiPath® Wireless Manager Advanced (HWMA), a modular extension for the Siemens® HiPath Wireless family of wireless local area network (LAN) solutions. Enhanced features of the HWMA solution are designed to help enterprises improve wireless LAN security -- with built-in intrusion detection and intrusion prevention. The solution also provides user location services, management tools to help optimize network performance and integrated reports that help assist organizations in complying with security regulations.

"The Siemens HiPath Wireless Manager Advanced platform helps enterprises improve network efficiencies, prevent network attacks and respond to security challenges," said Stefan Miesbach, CEO of the HiPath Wireless division at Siemens. "The HWMA solution is also an important part of Siemens' vision to make enterprise mobility easy -- including enterprise data networking as well as the emerging need for unified on-the-go communication across all mobile and vertical business applications."

The HWMA solution enhances the HiPath Wireless portfolio with:

  • State-of-the-art intrusion detection and prevention capabilities

  • Visual mapping and user location capabilities to help enhance troubleshooting

  • Powerful sensing and monitoring capabilities to help optimize network performance

A comprehensive user dashboard is also part of the solution to provide real-time overviews of the network with charts, reports, and statistics on wireless usage. Predefined reports are part of the solution to help enterprises comply with regulations such as the:

  • Sarbanes-Oxley Act for financial and accounting disclosure information

  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) for health care security and privacy compliance

  • Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act protecting nonpublic personal information

  • Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 8100.2 that covers the commercial use of wireless devices, services, and technologies in the DoD Global Information Grid (GIG)

The HWMA solution builds on technology from AirTight Networks, a leading provider of wireless perimeter security solutions. Siemens is working with AirTight to integrate wireless perimeter security capabilities into the HiPath Wireless portfolio.

"Integrated wireless IDS/IPS security is quickly becoming a security requirement for enterprise deployments," said Joel Conover, principal analyst of enterprise infrastructure at Current Analysis. "Siemens' integration of AirTight's best-of-breed security solutions gives Siemens a significant advantage in the market."

The Siemens HiPath Wireless Manager Advanced solution is part of an expanding HiPath Wireless portfolio of industry-leading enterprise communication solutions such as voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) and unified communications. The HiPath Wireless portfolio also includes a family of controllers, wireless access points, network management tools, and Siemens optiPoint WL2 professional voice over wireless LAN handsets.
