Heroix Longitude V3 Provides Sophisticated Agentless Application Performance Monitoring

Latest release brings agentless monitoring to new levels with comprehensive event correlation, SLA management, corrective action, and business impact analysis

NEWTON, Mass. -- April 24, 2006 -- Heroix today announced a major upgrade to its Longitude agentless performance monitoring and reporting software. Longitude V3’s new functionality brings agentless monitoring to new heights by enabling IT teams to manage critical applications more effectively with minimal effort and lower costs.

The new release addresses strategic performance monitoring issues aimed at helping customers comprehend the business impact of technology performance problems, anticipate user and management issues, and reduce the time required to resolve problems, while making it simple to implement and maintain the management solution. Heroix has added significant sophistication to the solution while retaining the ease of implementation, usage, and maintenance that have been the hallmark of the solution.

“Today’s IT staff needs comprehensive SLA- and event-analysis capabilities to manage the performance of complex, tiered applications and align their activities to actual business priorities,” said Jasmine Noel, principal analyst at Ptak, Noel & Associates. “Yet many companies also require a management solution with an uncomplicated architecture, fast deployment, and learn-as-you-go usage. Those companies should investigate agentless monitoring solutions such as Longitude.”

“Heroix products give us insight into the performance of our systems,” said Tom Harrop, project manager at Fallon Clinic, where these products are used to manage a 2000-user network as well as extranet activities. “We can be proactive in monitoring our entire infrastructure -- business applications, e-mail, databases, file and print servers, UPSs, and our firewall. Using Longitude V3 our routers and switches can also be monitored. We can avert problems before users are affected, fulfill and report on our service level obligations and improve customer satisfaction. We looked at numerous other vendors but chose Heroix because of its service reputation and the fact that Longitude was easy to install and use. We felt Longitude gave us the best monitoring value for our investment. The use of Heroix products helps us support the company’s strategic initiative to become a nearly paperless clinic.”

New and enhanced features include:

  • Event correlation helps to convey the business impact of technical issues by combining events across different applications, databases, servers, and platforms. It enables users to detect situations unique to their business, customize notification with their own instructions, and embody staff expertise, without needing to learn a scripting language.

  • Enhanced SLA Monitoring, Reporting, and Events show performance from a business perspective and help IT organizations anticipate user and management issues. SLAs translate technical metrics to a Good/Degraded/Unacceptable assessment of service delivery, and provide a clear picture of how well IT is performing against stated objectives. Longitude’s SLA feature supports maintenance schedules, clustered resources, and services that span applications, servers, and platforms. SLA data is presented in a realtime dashboard and historical reports. New in V3 is a graphical SLA Event Monitor that shows all SLA state transitions.

  • Baseline Workload Data helps users adjust threshold settings according to different workloads in order to eliminate false alarms. Average, minimum and maximum workload data enable administrators to make proper adjustments within their environment. Thresholds can be adjusted globally or for individual systems or groups of systems, based on historical workload data.

  • Scalable Notification and Actions ensure proper staff notification, thereby reducing the time required to solve problems. Longitude allows e-mail notification, SNMP trap notification, and automated corrective actions. Notifications and actions can be defined for a single event or hundreds of events with one simple screen. For example, an administrator could instruct Longitude to “restart any auto-start service that is not running” or “e-mail the Oracle DBA for any critical Oracle event.”

  • Monitoring Coverage has been expanded to include Cisco devices, Dell OpenManage, HP Systems Insight Manager, and SNMP device checking.
