Neterion's 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Boosts Network Performance of New Line of Sun Servers
New low profile 10 GbE adapter allows Sun customers to remove network bottlenecks for data-intensive applications
Cupertino, CA -- August 15, 2006 -- Neterion, Inc. today announced the availability of its new low-profile 10 GbE card, optimized for Sun Fire platforms.
The Neterion Xframe® II Sun Fire Adapter, compatible with both PCI-X 1.0 and 2.0 bus interfaces at Double Date Rate speeds, has been developed and tuned for the next generation of Sun Fire systems, including the X4100, X4200, X4500, and X4600. It offers full support for Solaris 10 with the driver included in the OS, as well as all major operating systems, such as Linux (included in the Kernel as well as major distributions) and Microsoft Windows, also included in the OS.
“Sun Microsystems has been regaining an increasing amount of momentum in the datacenter server market,” noted Dave Zabrowski, president and CEO of Neterion. “As a result, customers using the powerful and energy efficient line of Sun Fire servers are requesting networks with much greater bandwidth in order to transmit extremely high amounts of data. Today Neterion is proud to offer them the state-of-the-art Xframe technology, optimized for the new Sun Fire systems.”
With a low-profile, super-fast PCI-X bus interface, the Xframe II SF is specifically designed for the new Sun Fire systems, combining support of Solaris 10, Microsoft Windows, and Red Hat and SUSE Linux in one package.
With the Sun Fire X4500 (aka “Thumper”), Sun set a new standard for high-density, energy-efficient and low-cost data servers. Boasting two dual-core AMD Opteron processors, the Sun Fire X4500 can pack up to 24 TB of data in a 4U form factor. Its main applications are bandwidth-intensive tasks like data warehousing, remote backup and storage, digital video surveillance, video streaming applications, etc. -- all demanding the network performance of 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
This news comes after the partnership announcement by Sun Microsystems and Neterion in August 2004, on the development of high-speed interconnect solution for Sun platforms, and demonstrates the increased collaboration between the two companies.
Neterion offers a wide range of 10 GbE solutions: Xframe, Xframe II and Xframe E, equipped with SR or LR fiber interfaces, as well as CX4 copper. Since releasing its first product in October 2003, Neterion has been selected by the biggest server OEMs, such as IBM and Hewlett-Packard. Neterion will be making more server and storage OEM announcements later this year.
The Xframe II Sun Fire adapter is available in volume today, through Neterion’s selective NP3 Partner Channel. For more information on the Neterion Professional Partner Program (NP3), visit http://www.neterion.com/how/overview.html
