Azaleos Provides Free Microsoft Exchange Cost Calculator Tool

Total cost of ownership tool helps companies identify and reduce e-mail maintenance costs of Exchange 2003, 2007

November 30, 2006, Redmond, WA -- Azaleos Corporation today announced the immediate availability of an Exchange TCO (total cost of ownership) calculator that delivers a comprehensive analysis of the costs of running Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 to organizations of all sizes. Developed for Azaleos by independent analyst research firm Osterman Research, the Microsoft Exchange Cost Calculator incorporates data collected from hundreds of customers to provide detailed assumptions about software, hardware, archiving, management, monitoring, and IT resource costs associated with operating Microsoft Exchange.

With the imminent release of Microsoft Exchange 2007, companies are seeking to understand their current investment in their e-mail infrastructures to determine the best approach to deliver the most highly available e-mail solution at the lowest possible cost. The Microsoft Exchange Cost Calculator provides IT organizations with information they need to make an informed decision - whether they are migrating to Exchange 2003 or 2007 from previous versions of Exchange, or from Lotus Notes or Novell Groupwise.

“With the Microsoft Exchange Cost Calculator, Azaleos is seeking to provide customers with the most informed view of how to efficiently operate Microsoft Exchange,” said Phil Van Etten, CEO of Azaleos Corporation. “We are striving to provide an accurate depiction of customers’ current and expected IT infrastructure costs to enable consideration of all approaches to running 99.999% uptime, highly available e-mail.”

“Through this tool, we have estimated that the total cost of ownership and maintenance of Microsoft Exchange for a typical 1000 user organization is between $100/user and $300/user per year --- before considering the substantial cost of migration to successive releases of Microsoft Exchange,” said Michael Osterman, analyst, Osterman Research. “Azaleos has delivered an end-to-end solution for Microsoft Exchange that should significantly reduce the variability and the overall cost of Microsoft Exchange total cost of ownership and blaze a path to rapid adoption of Exchange 2007.”

“Based on our regular surveys of customers and our analysis of Exchange migration costs, we reiterate that it may cost as much as $500/mailbox for customers to make the move to Exchange 2007,” said David Ferris, analyst, Ferris Research. “Additionally, companies smaller than 500 employees experience higher costs of maintaining Exchange than larger companies. These migration and maintenance costs could be mitigated with Azaleos’ managed e-mail appliance approach.”
