Latest release features Microsoft 2007 support and "attachment stubbing"

MessageLabs has released version 3.0 of its MessageLabs Archiving Service, the first such offering from an SaaS provider.

The MessageLabs Archiving Service focuses on three facets of e-mail archiving: storage management, regulatory compliance and discovery. Designed to reduce the amount of time users spend managing their inbox size, the product securely archives internal and external e-mails while still allowing for "on-demand access" to archived messages.

This latest version features support for Microsoft 2007, including Exchange 2007 envelope journaling and the Office Open XML format. It also features "attachment stubbing" which "replaces attachments in users' mailboxes with references to the archive."

Other capabilities include archive reporting and supervision, real-time archive search and retrieval, archive encryption, and an archiving policy engine.

"As e-mail archiving becomes a necessary and sought-after tool for businesses worldwide, organizations have a choice in using an in-house or hosted solution," said MessageLabs president Jos White in a statement.

"MessageLabs hosted solution frees businesses from the expense and effort involved with storing vast amounts of e-mail in-house as well as the potential resulting network inefficiencies. With easy-to-use functionality. ... MessageLabs satisfies every archiving business requirementwih one, comprehensive hosted archiving service."
