L7 Enterprise 7 Updates Unified Policy Management Platform

Improves security, compliance, and policy management capabilities

Akonix Systems, Inc. released Akonix L7 Enterprise v7.0. The unified policy management (UPM) platform monitors, applies, and enforces policy and actions for the corporate use of unified communications (UC) applications, including public and enterprise instant messaging (IM), online conferencing, VoIP, and electronic faxing.

Akonix’s suite includes modules for setting policy on employee use of public and enterprise instant messaging clients and adds new modules that support online conferencing, VoIP, and server-based faxing. Version 7 integrates with Microsoft's UC platform, Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007, and unifies policy management and enforcement across OCS 2007 Enterprise Edition.

Besides extending security and compliance policy across more messaging and collaboration applications, Akonix L7 Enterprise v7.0 minimizes total cost of ownership of electronic messaging by simplifying and unifying administration, systems management, and operations, eliminating the costs of enforcing and managing policy in separate silos. L7 Enterprise reduces regulatory costs by eliminating silos of record retention and providing “unified search and restore of archived electronic communications and comprehensive reporting for electronic records retention,” according to the company.

"Unified communications will significantly change the way people work by providing one user interface for all IP communications," said Mark Levitt, program VP for Collaborative Computing and the Enterprise Workplace at IDC. "Akonix is recognizing this transition and supporting the next-generation of real-time workplace communications by providing a platform to ease its management and regulation."

The update provides a platform that simplifies and secures UC by letting IT centrally manage and enforce policy, security, and compliance.
