MIMEsweeper for Domino Edge Server Protects Lotus E-Mail Environments

New product stops spam and malware at e-mail gateway

Clearswift this week released the MIMEsweeper for Domino Edge Server, designed to protect e-mail environments using Domino and IBM Lotus Notes. The product is for existing users of MIMEsweeper for Domino.

According to a press release from the company, Edge Server works at the e-mail gateway to protect against malware and spam, leaving MIMEsweeper for Domino free to focus on enforcing policies, stopping the loss of data, and controlling outbound content.

Edge Server uses "multiple layers of spam protection" -- including spam filters and spam reputation services -- to protect the network. It also uses transport-layer security encryption, ensuring that e-mail correspondence stays confidential, the company said.

"The Edge Server is a logical extension of Clearswift's vision for policy enforcement, which is the key for any Internet and e-mail security strategy," said Alyn Hockey, Clearswift's director of product management, in the press release. "The service allows us to address all e-mail hygiene issues in a single location outside the network while freeing the content engines to focus on content security and policy enforcement."

According to Hockey, implementing Edge Server will free up IT administrators to tackle other issues besides protecting their e-mail environments.

Other features include support for patching and updates; scheduled and remote backups; SMTP and SNMP alerts; an array of anti-spam tools including "grey listing"; and, at an additional charge, Kaspersky anti-virus protection.
