Astaro Releases Security Gateway Version 7.2
Latest release features increased Skype filtering capabilities
Security vendor Astaro Corp. has released version 7.2 of the Astaro Security Gateway.
The release features increased filtering capabilities for Skype and other "difficult-to-identify protocols," the company said in a press release.
According to Astaro, organizations should take steps to centrally monitor employees' use of messenger and P2P applications such as AOL Messenger and ICQ. Organizations risk getting infected with viruses, falling out of compliance regulations, and suffering heavy network traffic through unmonitored use of these applications.
Version 7.2 of the Astaro Security Gateway lets IT admins either block communications through Skype or other applications, or simply be notified when such communications occur.
The product also lets admins control bandwidth limits on specific protocols like BitTorrent, as well as define policy exceptions for specific applications and IP addresses.
Version 7.2 of the Astaro Security Gateway is available for download through the company's global partner network at http://www.astaro.com and is also available as a virtual app, as a pre-installed component on Astaro hardware, or as a software ISO with a starting price of $345.
The company has also released the Astaro Web Gateway, an online filtering tool; pricing starts at $995.
