Unisys Expands Real-Time Offerings with Virtualization Products

New products include readiness assessment tool and e-mail virtualization product

Unisys recently expanded its real-time infrastructure offerings with several new virtualization products, including e-mail and desktop virtualization tools and a virtualization planning solution.

The first two products -- Unisys 3D Blueprinting for Virtualization and Virtualization Operational Readiness Assessment -- help companies develop a "planned approach to virtualization," the company said in a press release. 3D Blueprinting lets users map out a virtualization plan that takes into account their virtualization objectives, as well as their general IT and business goals.

Likewise, the Operational Readiness Assessment product gives companies a chance to view in advance the effects virtualization will have on their IT operations, allowing them to make the proper preemptive adjustments beforehand.

For desktop and e-mail virtualization, Unisys offers the Consolidated Desktop Solution (CDS) and the Consolidated Solution for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007. The latter product increases mailbox density, while the CDS promises to reduce a desktop environment's TCO by as much as 30 percent by letting users replace their normal desktops with thin clients.

The company also announced its new Storage Virtualization product, which lets users configure a central storage system that can be accessed virtually and managed via a single interface.

Finally, Unisys debuted its ES7000 Model 7405R server which can support an entire suite of virtualized apps. It also includes the company's Rapid Virtualization Indexing feature, as well as improved cooling and power management.

Overall, the products are designed to reduce infrastructure costs and increase IT productivity, the company said in a press release.

"These solutions liberate clients from IT productivity roadblocks and reduce costs while delivering a more efficient, reliable, secure and environmentally friendly IT infrastructure," said Unisys President Rich Marcello in the release. "By doing so, we free clients to invest their IT dollars in innovating for the future and growing their business."
