Sophos Updates Web Security Tool

Enhanced WS100 now available through a free upgrade

Sophos this week announced that it has updated its WS100 online security tool with new features that are now available through a "free and automatic upgrade."

Sophos said the new features are designed to offer protection against threats from end user tools such as proxies, which allow users to evade URL filtering tools.

To that end, the updated product now includes a real-time proxy scanner that monitors Web requests to determine whether traffic is being routed via an anonymizing proxy. It also includes a proxy reputation service that puts new proxy sites and services on a "block list" as they become available.

Other new features include an HTTPS scanner, default "SafeSearch" mode for search engines, and "user-specific activity reporting."

"With the Sophos Web appliance, and in particular this latest release, organizations can reclaim time and control over Web usage and be assured they are protected against the latest threat trends and productivity drains," said Chris Craft, Sophos' vice president of product management, Web security and control, in prepared statement.
