SolarWinds Releases Free VM Monitoring Tool

Company releases VM Monitor in conjunction with latest version of Orion Network Performance Monitor

As an update to its Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM), SolarWinds recently released the SolarWinds VM Monitor, a free downloadable tool.

The SolarWinds VM Monitor offers constant real-time monitoring of VMware ESX servers and associated virtual machines. The product lets users check CPU and memory usage, view the health statistics (including memory, disk and processor usage) of specific virtual machines, and "prevent performance degradation," the company said in a press release.

The SolarWinds VM Monitor is available for a free download at http://www.solarwinds.com/virtualization/index.aspx.

Similarly, the Orion NPM provides monitoring capabilities to the entire virtual environment, letting users manage "thousands" of ESX servers and their associated virtual machines. The latest version of the Orion NPM features real-time analysis, "do-it-yourself deployment," alerting capabilities, a customizable Web interface, and more.

"As the adoption of VMware environments continues to grow, we have extended our approach to virtualization, giving network engineers and administrators the ability to make the most of their virtualization investment," said Kenny Van Zant, SolarWinds' chief product strategist, in a prepared statement.

Pricing for the Orion NPM begins at $2,475 for one year of maintenance and 100 monitored elements. For more information, go to http://www.solarwinds.com.
