SolarWinds, a network management software vendor, has added to its Orion product family with the Orion IP SLA Manager. The new module, which replaces Orion VoIP Monitor, lets network teams easily harness Cisco IP Service Level Agreement (IP SLA) technology, generating network and services performance data to identify site-specific or WAN-related network performance issues.

Businesses are increasingly distributed across multiple locations, adding complexity to WAN performance maintenance. IP SLA is a network performance measurement technology that allows users to analyze specific transport metrics from a Cisco IP SLA-capable device to another Cisco router or IP device, continuously monitoring traffic on the network. This “de-centralized” view of network performance facilitates more precise identification of traffic trouble spots and accelerates response time. Until now, deploying the technology has been difficult; due in part to the dependency on command line interface (CLI) prompts to both configure and read results, but also due to the complexity in interpreting the results across multiple devices and network protocols.

Orion IP SLA Manager allows users to monitor WAN performance by tracking key edge-to-edge router performance statistics through IP SLA technology. The module identifies which devices on the network support IP SLA technology and automatically sets up operations, eliminating guesswork.

Combining Orion IP SLA with Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM) and Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) -- which support monitoring of volume-based data -- offers network management teams a more comprehensive perspective on network performance. And, as an Orion module, users will recognize the intuitive point and click interface, Top 10 lists, alerts, reports and maps that they know and trust.

Orion IP SLA Manager Highlights

  • Monitor WAN network performance using IP SLA technology that’s already built into existing Cisco routers

  • Visualize site-to-site network performance on a clickable, drill-down map

  • Discover and automatically setup Cisco IP SLA-capable network devices with specific IP SLA operations

  • Quickly review WAN performance to determine the impact on key applications

  • View at-a-glance WAN performance with the Top 10 IP SLA dashboard

  • Monitor VoIP performance statistics, including MOS, jitter, network latency, and packet loss

SolarWinds also offers a free tool, IP SLA Monitor, which offers real-time IP SLA statistics one network path at a time.

Pricing and Availability

The SolarWinds Orion IP SLA Manager pricing starts at $1,495, including first year maintenance. Orion IP SLA requires an installation of Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM). Pricing starts at $2,475 for Orion NPM, including first year maintenance.
